Eastbrook House, Shaftsbury Road, Cambridge (Honeywell) – External Cleaning

Eastbrook House experience a recurring problem with the limestone on the building turning black with mould. This is, therefore, a job that we undertake every year, cleaning a third of the building each time. This includes cleaning all walls, ledges, windows, and walkways to ensure that these areas are clean and free from mould.

Understanding the root cause of the problem was our priority when we initially tendered for this contract. The previous contractor had failed to go the extra mile and extend their cleaning past the vertical surfaces. The build-up of biofilm on the horizontal ledges at roof level had been neglected during the cleaning process, which when coupled with weather conditions, left an ideal situation for regrowth.

Making use of both steam jetting equipment and specialist access equipment, we were able to successfully kill and gently remove the biofilm build-up. This was then followed by the cleaning of all horizontal surfaces with a biocidal treatment to help inhibit regrowth. 18 months on and the area is clear from a biofilm build-up, clean and looking good.

Following the steam cleaning, all windows were serviced with traditional window cleaning methods. Which we will then maintain with our reach and wash process going forward.

This is a busy building so the health and safety aspect is crucial and paramount that our team is aware at all times. Making use of barriers to cordon off the current work area and divert any foot traffic that could potentially come into harms way.
